ASKED QUESTIONS

1) Do you use real Whale
Bones in your work?
Absolutely not!!! I just love the name. People
have contacted me in the past trying to sell me Whale Bones, I was
really surprised!
2) What makes the crystallized
texture?
I use Hawaiian rock salt mixed with
my pigment. This is allowed to set while weighted, down and cements
into a rocklike texture. The dappling texture, a more subtle effect
is achieved by wetting certain pigments and throwing salt on them
at exactly the right time.
3) What kind of framing is
this?
All work is done by myself and my husband Roy. I cut the mattes which
are all conservation or rag quality and then hinge the prints and
paint the images or designs on the mattes. Roy then preps them by
cleaning and removing excess salt and pigment then I again touch up
and splatter. Roy takes the finished product and frames it with conservation
glass which is a high quality glass with a UV blocking of 98.2%.
4) Where do I get my ideas?
From my experiences in life, including diving
and hiking in the three States where I've lived, Hawaii, California,
and Alaska. Where I've lived for the last 12 years. I don't use photos
expect to check to see if I've put the right number of toes on the
proper piece of the anatomy.
The Mermaids and Fantasy along with a lot
of other Wildlife works come from my dreams and the stories I write.
Each piece is a part of me, and reflects the State I live in.
5) Do you do Special Orders?
Special Orders are encouraged, customers may request that I personalize
and sign the back of Special Orders.
6) Why does it take so long to get a Special Order?
The reason it takes so long is that I have
quite a few orders coming in every day and I need to spend a lot of
time on each piece. Since it's first come, first done ,I have a huge
number of orders to fill by the first week of summer. I go as fast
as I can, and it's very important for people to understand that I
do every piece Freehand to help make every piece unique. I DO
NOT USE ANY STENCILS!!!
7) Can they have a color change? or composition change?
Composition change.....most of the time...
it's "NO", but you can always call or email me and ask.
Sometimes for an additional price I can make the actual framed piece
larger. Color changes, as long as they aren't too extreme are okay.
An example is that "Into The Emerald Sea" can be done in
either blues or teals. The same with "Out Of The Blue" or
"Travellers", etc...Pieces can also have their own frames
changed to match and the colors can sometimes be adjusted to work
with another piece. Use your common sense though! You can't make "Out
Of the Blue" work in the same format as "Phantom".
I hope this makes things a little easier to understand!!
